Emergency Communications Goal:
Establish and operate an amateur radio emergency communications network in Chatham County. Such a radio network will be part of an existing national network supported by the American Radio Relay League (ARRL). Surrounding counties now participate in such network. The network is periodically activated as part of ongoing training; it is activated for official emergency use by the County Emergency Operations Manager.
Network members are required to have a Federal Communications Commission (FCC) issued license. License training is offered for individuals interested in participating in network activities.
Topics covered in meetings have been:
a) The national ARRL emergency and the County's participation as part of the national network.
b) Organizational and individual interest matters.
c) Introduction to County Emergency Operations and the network's possible integration into that activity.
